A medium-bodied red with blackberry, blueberry and cracked-salt undertones. It's firm and chewy. Shows polish.

A 70/30 split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 12 months in close to one-third new oak (10% was in amphora), the 2020 Château Arcole offers a juicy, up-front bouquet of red and black cherries, graphite, toasted spices, and spring flowers. This medium-bodied, juicy, elegant Saint-Emilion has solid balance, ripe, building tannins, and the class to evolve for a good decade.

The 2020 Château d'Arcole shows much better than the 2018 recently encountered. Blackberry and briar form the well-defined, quite lively bouquet. The palate is medium- bodied with rustic tannins. A slightly ferrous Saint-Émilion that would benefit from more depth on the finish, but it is balanced and delivers adequate salinity.
