Selbach-Oster Zeltingen Sonnenuhr Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2022

This is firmly structured in the way that DRC’s Grand Cru La Tache is, a brooding beast with enormous aging potential. However, this is the Mosel so there’s also a lightness of touch and moderate alcohol. Extremely long, wet stone finish with a wonderful clarity and underplayed power. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

The 2022 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr GG was harvested in a parcel to the right of the small chapel on the blue slate. The vines were planted around 2010. Riper citrus-like tangerine opens the nose and is still colored by a touch of flinty reduction. The bright palate brings almost floral notions to that slightly flinty citrus impression and a gentle creaminess. The finish seems pristine, super-clean, and almost cleansing like a sorbet. Lovely, straight-laced, elegant, scented. (Dry)
