Always one of the most satisfying examples of its appellation, Ghislaine's Bourgogne Rouge is a Chambolle in all but name. The Bons Batons vineyard lies at the border of Chambolle-Musigny and Gilly-les-Citeaux, just across the main road from Chambolle proper, and it offers an introduction to the expression of Chambolle's sensual, mineral essence.

Racked in mid-September, the 2021 Bourgogne Rouge Les Bons Batons (this cuvee now sports the name of the lieu-dit), has a pretty bouquet with red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fleshy opening. Not deep, but well balanced with appreciable volume on the finish. This surpasses my expectations and should not be ignored if you cannot get your hands on one of their Chambolles.
