Rarely found in the United States, Isautier is the oldest working distillery on the Ile de la Réunion, a small island off the east coast of Madagascar. Though they produce rums in both the French and Spanish styles, this example is specifically a distillation of pure, fresh-pressed sugarcane juice, aged sixteen years in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at a robust 118 proof. Aromas of raspberry, green apple, candied nuts, spice, vanilla, and a distinct mineral note make it a complex, exciting pour—very limited!
