National Bourbon Heritage Month |
![]() |
Did you know September is National Bourbon Heritage Month? Declared in 2007 by the United States Senate as a celebration of America’s ‘native spirit,’ National Bourbon Heritage Month is mostly celebrated in—or with respect to—Kentucky, the state with the most widely-known bourbon producing history and most of the country’s large commercial producers, along with MGP of Indiana.
However, while Kentucky bourbon is most certainly worth celebrating, bourbon is America’s native spirit all over the country. In fact, despite what Kentucky distilleries have been telling the public for years, bourbon was never required to be made in their state. Until an act of congress in 1964, bourbon didn’t even have to be produced in the United States! The history of whiskey distilling actually pre-dates Kentucky’s statehood, originating with rye whiskey distilled in the northeast, and traveling all over the country after craft distilling became legal in 2007.
Here are five of our favorite craft bourbons from around the country, in order of appearance in the picture above (detailed descriptions available at the shopping links below):
Of course, this is just a snapshot of our selection. We also have award-winning craft bourbons from Rock Town Distillery in Little Rock, Arkansas; Garrison Brothers in Hye, Texas; Peach Street Distillers in Palisade, Colorado; New Riff in Newport, Kentucky; Wigle Whiskey in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and many others—not to mention the ryes, American single malts, and more! Come check out our selection in person or click spirits in the tab at the top of the website. Try something new and enjoy! |
