Gilbert Picq Chablis Vaucoupin 2010
Gilbert Picq
Situated in the commune of Chichée, Vaucoupin is a highly regarded premier cru on the right bank (east side) of the river Serein. (All seven of Chablis' grand crus are also on the right bank.) Generally speaking, "the right bank premier crus usually produce bigger and more powerful wines whereas the left bank produces wines with more of an emphasis on elegance and finesse," according to Burghound's Allen Meadows. Picq's vines are planted on an impossibly steep (45 degree), south-facing slope that must be farmed by hand. Didier finds the resulting juice to be feminine and floral with more gras (fat) than his other 1er Cru from Vosgros.
International Wine Cellar
Reticent but pure aromas of menthol, flowers, butter, warm brioche and wet stone; smells creamy. Then juicy, deep and light on its feet, with penetrating acidity giving grip and razor-sharp definition to its dense flavors of crystallized lemon peel, menthol and mint. The long, subtle, slowly building finish leaves the mouth feeling refreshed. Excellent depth of flavor here.

Wine Advocate
The 2010 Chablis Vaucoupin is the most refined of these 2010s. It flows with endless layers of soft, fragrant fruit, all of which come together in a medium-bodied style that is highly appealing. The trademark Picq juiciness and intensity is there, but it is also balanced by the wine-s underlying minerality. Floral notes reappear on the finish, adding lift and freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2012+.

Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

Wine Spectator is a lifestyle magazine that focuses on wine and wine culture. It publishes 15 issues per year with content that includes news, articles, profiles, and general entertainment pieces.
