Rene Rostaing

René owns three miniscule parcels in La Landonne on the Côte Brune and makes extremely limited quantities of this prized cuvée. This is a dense and saturated wine made from vines that are older than those owned by Marcial Guigal. Of the three parcels, in fact, two have vines that are 50 to 60 years old, with some as old as 65 years.

Wine Spectator

This has depth and ripeness, but stays defined, with an almost searing iron spine cutting through the core of plum, blackberry and currant fruit. The long finish lets bay leaf, tobacco and chestnut notes fill in. Showing great drive and intensity, this is still very youthful now and will benefit from extended cellaring. Best from 2015 through 2025. 450 cases made.

Score: 95. —James Molesworth, July 31, 2012.

Wine Advocate

Showing beautifully, the 2009 Cote Rotie La Landonne offers aromas of tapenade, bouquet garni, asphalt, blackberries, cassis, roasted meats and additional black fruits. More evolved and softer than the 2010, with a long, full-bodied finish, it can be drunk now and over the next 10-15 years.

Score: 93. —Robert Parker, December 2011.
